I have limited patience for poetry. Thankfully this volume is slim. And again, brightly colored.

So Many Things, part 7

1. Lunchables.

2. Eagle Cam.

3. The "El Guapo" drink special at The Library. A shot of tequila and 24oz of Tecate -- why not?

4. Sunday on the couch watching a Dexter marathon. (Thanks, in part, to the "El Guapo" drink special...)

5. A roommate kind enough to venture out on a Sunday morning and return with bagels.

6. Hot pink Post-It notes.

7. The puppy park at Tompkins Square.

8. The fact that once you put a silk scarf over a cardboard box, you can call it a nightstand and not feel at all like you're living in a crack den.

9. Green satin slippers.

10. Coffee mugs the size of my head.

No Fools Here

I left the house today and nothing horrible happened. It's shaken my faith in my arbitrary system of superstitions. Yay?

This week's books chosen for their bright, shiny covers. Clearly.

Almost Makes Sense...

Almost makes "cents." Oh, Schrodinger, so very clever.

I'm breaking the cell phone rule and the photography rule in order to point out that my gym is afraid of women forgetting to put their clothes on before exiting.

Alcohol and coloring books don't mix.

Well, no it's not. It's a lit candle, you see.

Who buys an $8 bag of Jolly Ranchers?

It used to be a Skittles problem. Now it's a Jolly Ranchers thing. God save my teeth.

So Many Things, part 6

1. Brunch. Today @ The Corner Bakery and Cafe. Eggs Florentine = happy.

2. Jolly Ranchers. Jolly is in the name, folks.

3. Weekend flea markets.

4. My grey studded oxfords.

5. Apres-ski sweaters, even if the closest I'll be coming to a mountain anytime soon is the map of Bald Mountain in Sun Valley on my bedroom wall.

6. Vacation planning. Morocco in November? I think yes.

7. Being up before noon on BOTH weekend days. It's a one in a million kind of thing!

8. Related: being out of my HOUSE before noon on both weekend days. Lots of strollers out there in the AM. Very strange.

9. Sunglasses.

10. Aveda Comforting tea. Best. Tea. Ever.

Friday Night....Naps

Oh, the excitement of Friday night. And of all the wonderful things I can find to do, the highest on my list is almost invariably GET SOME SLEEP.

But I don't plan it well...passing out at 5pm just to wake up at 11pm wondering "what the hell day is it now?" and then flipping a coin to determine whether to go back to sleep or get myself dressed and stay out all night just seems silly.

So......heads or tails?

Nostalgia Beast

The season is a'changin! In case you haven't noticed it yet, here are some of the ways you can tell...

The calendar is pretty obvious about it. March 20th - WINTER. March 21st - SPRING. It's magic! (And utterly misleading.)

The flora and fauna help. The pigeons are getting friskier, and some of the trees look like they might at least be considering getting some leaves on those bare-ass branches soon.

The days are longer, which means it's not dark when I am walking to the subway, which is nice when I need to realize that my socks don't match before I get all the way to work and have them exposed under fluorescent lighting.

And my heaviest coat -- I don't call it a winter coat because it's not, just like the fan I have in my room during the summer is in no way to be considered air conditioning -- has been left untouched for a week.

But these aside, the truest way to tell that one season is ending and another is beginning is undoubtedly the Nostalgia Beast.

It's a sneaky one, that Nostalgia Beast. You can be listening to the radio on an ordinary New York morning and then find yourself thinking about a Boise hotel that you once ran amok in with the rest of your high school tennis team. Old boyfriends of the last decade suddenly seem like the best people in the whole wide world, in spite of any and every major flaw, and you get upset wondering whatever happened to that strange soccer ball / alien stuffed animal you had when you were ten.

So I'm going to have to say, yep, Spring is coming, cause I can't keep my mind out of the past, and I'm missing the way the carpet in my parents' house smelled when I would lay on the floor with all the pets, soaking up the sun coming through the windows on a Sunday afternoon.

You win this round, Nostalgia Beast. I'll see you again in June.

Bluestockings

The New York Public Library is going to start sending me hate mail. The stack of library books is starting to become a stack of overdue library books, one by one (or three by three). And yet I keep going back for more. As far as addictions go, this one seems harmless enough, but if I'm found dead forty years from now and they have to break into my apartment after the meowing of my dozen cats gets so loud the neighbors complain, it's conceivable that they won't be able to open the door because the delinquent books will have overfilled the space and there isn't a square inch of room in which to move.

It's definitely conceivable...

I'm reading as fast as I can, damn it!

Middlesex is the current text, and I'm sure I will finish it as soon as the sound craps out on my laptop again, making it impossible to spend my evening watching Star Trek.
